A lump reappearing in your groin that cannot be pushed back in
This is a surgical emergency — do not wait

Severe or worsening groin or abdominal pain
Nausea, vomiting, or inability to pass gas or have a bowel movement
Abdominal swelling or bloating
Fever greater than 38.5 C or chills
Redness, warmth, or discoloration of the skin over the groin bulge
Signs of infection at any wound site if you had surgery
Any concerning change in your condition
Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, seek immediate care
Emergency hernia repair is more dangerous than planned surgery: do not delay seeking care
