Activity and lifestyle
Avoid prolonged sitting without breaks
Avoid tight clothing around the abdomen and pelvis
Stress reduction techniques (mindfulness, yoga, CBT) can reduce flare frequency
If pelvic floor physical therapy is recommended, attend all sessions — do NOT do Kegel exercises unless specifically instructed
Follow-up appointments
See your urologist or urogynecologist in 4-6 weeks for symptom reassessment
Bring a completed 3-day voiding diary to your follow-up appointment
If on pentosan polysulfate, arrange annual ophthalmology follow-up
Return to the emergency department immediately if you develop
Blood in your urine (red or dark brown urine)
Fever greater than 38.3 degrees Celsius
Complete inability to urinate
Sudden severe worsening of pain not relieved by your medications
New leg weakness, numbness in the groin or inner thighs, or loss of bladder or bowel control
